DeeDee Jonrowe, one of Alaska’s most beloved Iditarod mushers, will speak at Mat-Su College’s Convocation and New Student Orientation on Wednesday, August 24 at 10am in the Glenn Massay Theater. DeeDee holds both the fastest time of any woman in the history of the Iditarod and 14 top ten finishes in her career. In addition to the Iditarod, DeeDee has competed and won most major dog sledding races throughout her career, including the Copper Basin 300, Klondike 300 and the John Beargrease sled dog marathon.

Amidst her successes, DeeDee has experienced significant challenges, including her highly publicized battle with breast cancer and the destruction of her home and kennel in the 2015 Sockeye fire.

DeeDee will share a positive message with faculty, staff, and students about setting goals, facing challenges, and connecting with others along the trail that one has chosen to travel.
