The Community Outreach Club of Mat-Su College would like to thank everyone in the college community who participated and donated to the club’s first project, “Soap and Socks.”  The group successfully reached their goal of collecting 200 bars of soap and/or body wash, as well as 95 pairs of new socks of various sizes.  Also donated to the cause were 13 bottles of shampoo, 12 bottles of conditioner, 8 bottles of mouthwash and 2 bottles of lotion.

The items were distributed to those in need during the Mat-Su Valley’s Project Homeless Connect, which was held on January 29, 2014, at the Curtis Menard Sport Center in Wasilla. The event was part of the statewide “point in time” homelessness count. This count helps our communities have a better understanding of how many of our neighbors do not have a permanent place to live. At the same time, it encourages those in need to seek help and allows volunteers to show them some compassion.

The Community Outreach Club thanks you again for sharing your kindness.

Amy Dorsey [You at Risk, Coordinator for the MSBSD] a Co-Chair for Project Homeless Connect accepts the donated items amassed during Mat-Su College’s “Soap and Socks” collection drive.
