MAF5th Annual Festival: June 5 & 6, 2015

2015 represents a key transition point for the Machetanz Art Festival. Not only will this be the fifth anniversary of the festival, it is also the first time we will have the opportunity to make use of the new Glenn Massay Theater. The theater will offer a new venue for festival events and in the years to come is likely to add a performing arts component to our options for our Alaskan patrons of the arts.

Once again we will have an opportunity to shamelessly exploit a now famous son of the Matanuska-Valley – nationally recognized artist Dean Larson!

A message from our Director

MAF Logo OCT 2014Mr. Larson personally embodies much of the past history of this institution as well as some of our hopes for the future. His Father, former Alaska State Representative Ron Larson, was not only a supporter of the college but a long term adjunct. Dean’s first great teacher in art was Palmer artist Fred Machetanz, whose original work graces the lobby of the new Glenn Massay Theater. Dean Larson is also technically one of our alumni, he took his first college credits in 1975 at this campus when it was still just one building.

We are proud of our alumni. We consider those who attend our annual summer festival to be a part of our alumni and we are grateful for your presence and support. We are also very proud of all of our professors.   Most of our festival professors are associated with our college only for the duration of our short festival, nevertheless, by being willing to participate they not only enrich and please our students but enhance the reputation of this institution. Come and take a class. Learn from the best. Be a part of a great tradition, learn a lot, and have some fun at the Matanuska-Susitna College.

Welcome to the Fifth Annual Machetanz Art Festival.

—Dr. Talis J. Colberg
Matanuska-Susitna College Director
