SSN Disclosure
Required for Admission
As an eligible educational institution MSC/UAA must obtain your correct Social Security Number (SSN) to file informational returns with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and to furnish a statement to you. The returns MSC/UAA must file contain information about qualified tuition and related expenses. Privacy Act Notice – Section 6109 of the Internal Revenue Code requires you to give your correct SSN to persons who must file information returns with the IRS to report certain information. The IRS uses the numbers for identification purposes and to help verify the accuracy of your tax return. For more information please refer to IRS code 6050S. MSC/UAA has determined that the time of application for admission is the most effective time (for students and administrative offices) to collect this information.
It is mandatory for you to provide your SSN to apply for admission using the secure web site. This will assist us in avoiding duplication of student records.
If you wish not to provide your Social Security Number using the web application, please contact Student Services at 907.745.9746 for a paper application.
You are requested to voluntarily provide your Social Security Number to assist MSC/UAA and the University of Alaska System (UA) and organizations conducting studies for or on behalf of MSC/UAA in developing, validating, or administering predictive tests and assessments; administering student aid programs; improving instruction; internal identification of students and alumni and collection of student debts.
You will be assigned a student ID number, separate from your SSN, to be used for future identification and tracking purposes.
