Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Course

Overview

Mat-Su College offers the EMT I Course through the Paramedic Program for non-degree and degree-seeking students. EMT I is one of the prerequisite courses for the Paramedic degree program. All Paramedic courses at Mat-Su College are comprised of hands-on, experiential-based learning modules, so students enter the workforce ready to provide critical care for patients.

The EMT program at MSC focuses on technical knowledge, crisis management techniques, team leadership skills, and communication strategies, so students are qualified to respond in real-life situations. EMT's are certified through the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services. 


Program Details

The EMT I course at Mat-Su College provides high-tech simulations with EMS and Paramedic teams, allowing students to respond to 911 calls, spend time on life support ambulance crews, interact with patients in crisis, and perform supervised EMT skills. 

Blended course option allows students to attend online lectures with the benefit of face-to-face discussions with Paramedic faculty and lab instructors.

Outcomes of the EMT I Course

The successful EMT student will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to:

  • Provide quality patient care under stress in critical situations
  • Pass the NREMT certification exam
