Admission
Admission into the UAA School of Nursing program is a two-part process:
- Admission to the University of Alaska Anchorage as an undergraduate degree-seeking student AND
- Admission to the UAA School of Nursing program through the Nursing Centralized Application Service (NursingCAS). For more information, please visit How to Apply through NursingCAS.
The UAA nursing program selects a limited number of applicants each year into its full-major program. Admissions into the program is competitive and acceptance into the university as a degree-seeking student does not guarantee selection into the full-major program.
Advising
Academic advising is crucial when considering nursing as an area of study. The BSN in Nursing is a competitive program offering a limited number of spaces to qualified students. Mat-Su College advisors are available year-round to explain the different options and guide students in selecting appropriate prerequisite courses.
Advisors from the Anchorage School of Nursing visit Mat-Su College in October and again in March, prior to the opening of the fall and spring enrollment periods. Advisors present small group information sessions for prospective students and meet one-on-one with students admitted as pre-majors while enrolled in prerequisite courses. Interested students can call the School of Nursing directly at (907) 786-4550 to learn the date of upcoming sessions in Anchorage or sign up here to receive a reminder notification of upcoming advising sessions presented at Mat-Su College.
Licensure and/or Certification
Graduates of the BSN are eligible to sit for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) from the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
This program is designed to meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in the State of Alaska. However, the program might not meet the educational requirements for professional licensure or certification in other states. Please see UAA’s Licensure and Certification website for more information.
