Biography

I was raised on Kodiak Island and currently reside in Wasilla with my husband. I grew
up with a variety of animals. I started in the veterinary industry, as a kennel assistant, in Sault
Sainte Marie Michigan when I was pursuing a Wildlife Biology Degree. While living in North
Pole Alaska and working at Mt. McKinley Animal Hospital, I was accepted to the AVMA
Accredited Veterinary Technology Program in Portland, Oregon. I graduated in 2009, moved to
Wasilla and have continued to pursue advanced certifications in support of maintaining high
standards of care for my communities’ pets. Within the state of Alaska, I am the first Licensed
Veterinary Technician (LVT) to obtain a Veterinary Technician Specialty (VTS) certification in
Clinical Practice – Canine/Feline focus. Other advanced certifications include Fear Free, Feline
Friendly Practice, Pain Management, and Physical Rehabilitation (small animal). I have worked
in general practice, emergency medicine/specialty referral, internal medicine, shelter medicine,
and research. In 2015, I completed a Bachelors Degree in Technology/Project Management from
the University of Alaska, Anchorage. I have a strong interest in animal health emergency
response team programs, One Health Initiatives, veterinary ethics, and sustainable work-force
initiatives.
I look forward to transitioning to the role of Professor and Co-Director for Alaska’s first
Veterinary Technology Program in 2024.
